The newspaper that revealed the trauma of a dark age to the country

The nineties were a period washed with blood and tears in Sri Lanka. At that time, a youth struggle arose and was violently suppressed. In order to bring the situation of suppression to society after the crackdown, members of JVP started the newspaper 'Hiru' with the help of friends. It was named the Flower of Truth blooming with the help of the people.

Mr Sunil Madhava Prematilake and Mr Vini Hettigoda, who resigned from Lakdiva newspaper for a matter of policy , took the lead in this. It is said that the editorial board members Uditha Gayashan, Wimal Weerawansa and Rohitha Bhashana Abeywardena carried out the primary responsibility of coordinating aid programs to start Hiru newspaper. 

With his permission, I am bringing you these valuable newspapers given to me by a Facebook friend. Thanks to those who scanned these and to all who provided them to me.

අනූව දශකය ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ ලෙයින් කඳුලින් සේදී ගිය සමයෙකි. ඒ කාලයයේ දී තරුණ අරගලයක් පැන නැඟී දරුණු ලෙස එය මර්දනයට ලක් විය. එම මර්ඒදනයෙන් පසු තත්ත්වය සමාජය වෙත ගෙන යෑම සඳහා ජනතා විමුක්ති පෙරමුණේ සාමාජිකයන් විසින් හිතවතුන්ගේ ආධාර මත 'හිරු' පුවත්පත ආරම්භ කරන ලදි. එය නම් කර තිබුණේ ජනතා ආධාර මත විකසිත සත්‍යයේ පුෂ්පය නමිනි. 

ලක්දිව පුවත්පතෙන් ප්‍රතිපත්තිමය හේතුවක් මත ඉල්ලා අස්වූ සුනිල් මාධව ප්‍රේමතිලක හා විනි හෙට්ටිගොඩ මහත්වරුන් මෙහි මූලිකත්වය ගෙන තිබිණි. හිරු පුවත්පත ආරම්භ කිරීමට ආධාර වැඩසටහන් සම්බන්ධීකරණ කටයුතුවල මූලික වගකීම ඉටු කළ බව කියනුයේ කර්තෘ මණ්ඩල සාමාජිකයන් වන උදිත ගයාෂාන්, විමල් වීරවංශ හා රෝහිත භාෂණ අබේවර්ධන විසින් බව කියැවේ.

 

මුහුණුපොතේ මිතුරෙකු විසින් මා වෙත ලබා දුන් මෙම වටිනා පුවත්පත් කිහිපය ඔහුගේ අවසරය මත මෙසේ ඔබ වෙත ගෙන එමි. මේවා ස්කෑන් කළ තැනැත්තන්ට සහ මා වෙත ලබා දුන් සියලු දෙනාට ස්තුතිය පුද කරමි.
