I came to know from a post in the face book by veteran artist Aravinda Senadheera that a veteran artist named Anura Wijewardena showed a copy of the children's magazine EAGLE to the head of the Lake house and editor of Sathuta comic paper when they start the Sathuta comic paper. So I thought I'd say something about that EAGLE magazine. Because this magazine has a special place in my digital magazine collection.
This magazine has been published weekly for 20 years (1950-1969). From 1982 to 1984, the magazine was republished in a different format. The founder of this English children's magazine was a pastor named Marcus Morris. That is why he also includes matters related to Christianity in this magazine. A beautiful picture story of Jesus is also published here (attached herewith). The inaugural issue has sold over 900,000 copies.
ප්‍රවීණ චිත්‍රශිල්පී අරවින්ද සේනාධීර මහතා විසින් මුහුණුු පොතේ පළ කර තිබූ සටහනකින් මා හට දැන ගන්නට ලැබුණා ලංකාවේ මුල් ම චිත්‍රකතා පත්තරය වූ සතුට ආරම්භ කිරීම සඳහා අනුර විජේවර්ධන නම් ප්‍රවීණ චිත්‍ර ශිල්පි මහතා විසින් EAGLE නමැති ළමා සඟරාවේ පිටපතක් ලේක්හවුසියේ පාලනාධිකාරියට හා සතුට සංස්කාරක වූ බන්දුල සමරසිංහ මහතාට පෙන්වා සිටි බව. ඉතින් අන්න ඒ EAGLE සඟරාව ගැන යමක් කියන්නට මට සිතුණා. මොක ද මගේ ඩිජිටල් සඟරා එකතුවේ විශේ්ෂ තැනක් මේ සඟරාවට හිමි වී තිබෙන නිසා.
මේ සඟරාව එරට අවුරුදු 20ක් (1950-1969) සතිපතා නොකඩවා පළ වී තිබෙනවා . ඉන් පසු වෙනස් ස්වරූපයකින් 1982 සිට 1984 දක්වා නැවතත් මෙම සඟරාව ප්‍රකාශයට පත් වෙනවා. මේ ඉංග්‍රීසි ළමා සඟරාවේ ආරම්භකයා මාකස් මොරිස් නම් දේවගැතිවරයෙක්. ඒ නිසා ම ඔහු මෙම සඟරාවේ ක්‍රිස්තියානි ධර්මය සම්බන්ධ කරුණූ ද ඇතුළත් කරනවා. ජේසු තුමා පිළිබඳ ලස්සන චිත්‍රකතාවක් ද මෙහි පළ වෙනවා.( මේ සමග ඉදිරිපත් කර ඇත). මෙහි මංගල කලාපය පිටපත් ලක්ෂ නවයක් පමණ අලෙවි වී තිබෙනවා.

Riders of the Range is a similarly popular story. P.C. 49. Eagle is a feature about news and sports. The editor left the magazine halfway through, but it continued for a long time. In 1969, the magazine had to merge with LION, a similar magazine.

One more thing to say. There are magazines like this in the homes of a group of people who lived in Colombo. They dont throw them away after reading. Even today I have seen them bring them and give them to old bookshops. Some are free. Some for a small price. But we cant buy them in low price. we have to pay large price .
තවත් යමක් කිව යුතුයි. කොළඹ ජීවත් වුණු ගෙිඩක් දෙනාගේ ගෙවල්වල මෙවැනි සඟරා තිබිල තියෙනවා.ඔවුන් ඒවා කියවලා විසි කර දාන්නෙ නැහැ.අදටත් මම දැකල තියෙනවා ඔවුන් ඒවා ගෙනත් පරණ පොත් කඩවලට දීලා යනවා. සමහරුන් නොමිලේ. සමහරුන් පොඩි ගාණකට. ඒත් අපට නම් ඒවා අඩුවට ගන්න ලැබෙන්නෙ නැහැ.
